Notion Realize Music Challenge
September 14th 2008 - Composer John McIntyre of Shelburne, Ontario is one of two Ontario composers awarded finalist placement in the international composition competition "Realize Music Challenge" - McIntyre was presented finalist placement in the Emerging Artist category for his original composition "Festive Overture".

Image I am an orchestral composer. I use computer software for composition, performance and playback, I don't usually have an orchestra waiting to play my music! I don't use a midi keyboard or a keyboard of any kind for composition as I find this distracts me. The process from ideation to final product all takes place in my brain and computer. As this is a labour intensive process, it usually takes me quite a lot of time to write something of significant duration. I'm currently using a new composition software program to help me to realize my sound palette: Notion

Stylistically, my music is quite diverse and includes tonal-traditional to extra-tonal and experimental. Most of the music I am composing these days tends to be rather traditional and tonal in its approach. Feedback most welcome...
